Assam-Mizoram to hold chief minister-level talks to resolve border dispute

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga in New Delhi on Wednesday to hold another round of talks on the long-pending Assam-Mizoram border issue. Chief Minister Sarma said , "We reviewed the August 9 ministerial-level talks in Aizwal. We are in the process of forming regional committee to discuss and resolve the issues".  Sarma said,Assam will take along Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh as Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear to resolve all inter-state border issues in the Northeast before 2024. Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said , We have had a good round of meeting and we are satisfied with the progress made in the meeting between the ministers of both the states.   The two Chief Minister met in the national capital in the presence of the Union Home Minister in November last year to discuss the decades-long pending issue.A couple of rounds of meetings have been held between the delegations of Assam and Mizoram to resolv...

INTRODUCTION The Barak Valley is located in the southern region of the Indian state of Assam. The main city of the valley is Silchar. The region is named after the Barak river. The Barak valley mainly consists of three administrative districts of Assam - namely Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. HISTORY The region was originally part of the Tripura kingdom.
